Hi. We’re Helm Operations
Since 1999 Helm Operations has been developing Helm software to help workboat companies better organize their operations and optimize their business intelligence. Our operations are based on Vancouver Island on the west coast of Canada. As the company has continued to grow, we’ve recently expanded our presence in Europe and opened a second office in The Netherlands.
Our brand promise is: to connect the marine industry like no other technology company, so we strive to make our software, service and culture reflect that promise.
In 2018, Helm Operations was acquired by Volaris Group, an operating group of Toronto-based software and services provider Constellation Software Inc., the largest independent software company in Canada. Volaris Group acquires, strengthens, and grows companies enabling them to be clear leaders within their focused industry and has a philosophy of never selling companies within its portfolio. This acquisition allows Helm Operations to accelerate innovation as an independent software vendor, with the financial backing and security of Constellation Software.

A proud member of:
Ron has seen the company grow from a one person, one customer operation to one of the leading software suppliers in the maritime industry. If you need a good idea for just about anything, Ron is your go to. He takes brainstorming to another level and gets the team’s creative juices flowing like no one else can.
Nolan’s been with Helm for over 15 years. In that time he’s done just about every job at the company, and today manages Operations as well as Human Resources. He miraculously juggles many balls in the air without dropping one, all with the biggest smile on his face. We’d be completely lost without him!
VP of Product
A man of many trades, Cooper keeps all things Helm CONNECT running smoothly and on track. When he’s not working his magic with the team, he’s probably reciting a timely movie quote or filling us in on the latest NFL news.
VP of Sales
James is known as the guy that makes things happen. When he’s not supporting the sales team, he’s probably making up a hilarious new tag line or referencing something from the 90’s no one remembers. His only weakness is the locally made doughnuts at our favorite coffee shop but hey, earl grey maple glaze? Who doesn’t love that?!
Product Marketing Manager
Sarah Adams (her nickname is her full name) is the keeper of Product Marketing, as well as the office post it notes, white boards, and pretty much any other space that could have a fancy diagram on it. She turns all need to know information into something visual we all want to read. Without her no one would know what’s going on.
Client Support Manager
If you need help, Haider has got you covered. If he’s not at his trendy stand up desk helping out a customer, he’s brightening someone’s day around the office. His wide variety of interests make him easy for everyone to chat up. From sports to This is Us – he’s got you covered.
Director of Finance
Carly is the master of the company’s numbers, however, her talents go far beyond excel spreadsheets. If the office is nicely decorated for a holiday, or there’s fresh cut pineapple, you probably have Carly to thank.
Director of IT Services
Mike heads up Helm’s IT department. When he’s not impressing us with his computer skills, he’s probably making a gourmet lunch for the team. Sitting down for an epic Mike style curry lunch is the highlight of anyone’s day. What can we say, he keeps us connected.
Rob Petley- Jones
Director of Client Services
Rob (also known as RPJ) heads up our client services team. He’s a rock star at keeping things on track. When he’s out of the office, he can very likely be spotted at the closest music festival going on.
Director of Development
Matt keeps our development train on its tracks. Having been with Helm for more than 6 years–first as a developer and now as our Director of Development–he knows the code and architecture of our products inside and out. Around here, Matt’s known as “Action Matt” because he just gets stuff done. It’s a good thing he’s so organized, because he’s also about to become a father!
