Helm x TBS Discussion Series: The impacts of COVID-19 on the maritime industry

Last week we joined forces with our partners Tug and Barge Solutions to launch the Helm x TBS Discussion Series and talk about the impacts COVID-19 has had on the maritime industry! Each month, Chrystie Benson, Account Executive at Helm Operations, Erin Pugh, Chief Experience Officer at TBS, and myself will be getting together to discuss current topics to make sure that you, the maritime professional, are informed and aware of what is going on in our industry.

For our first installment, Chrystie, Erin, and I sat down to discuss the impacts that COVID-19 is having on the maritime industry, like new procedures for crew changes, access to vessels, shoreside personnel working from home, and a lot of uncertainty for passenger and fishing vessels. We also talk a bit about how each of our companies have been impacted by the virus and what we’re doing in response to help bring additional value to our customers when they need it most. Check out the full video below to learn more about the additional resources we’re creating to help you during this time.

  • 00:00 – Intro
  • 00:29 – How have you seen COVID-19 impact the maritime industry?
  • 05:15 – How have your daily operations been impacted by the virus?
  • 08:30 – How have your companies responded to the crisis? Are you doing anything differently or offering anything now that you didn’t before?
  • 15:18 – Additional comments

For our next video we plan to bring on an auditor who works with TBS to talk about what they’re seeing, how they’re being impacted by COVID-19, and what recommendations they have for companies to help them get through these times. If there are any topics you would like to hear us discuss, let us know. We’d love to hear from you! In the meantime, be sure to connect with us and TBS on social – we always have new content coming out for you.

Stay safe everyone!
