Charting New Waters: Lloyd’s Register and Marshall Islands Certify Our Electronic Record Books

For operators looking to move away from paper logbooks without compromising compliance, there’s now a class-certified digital alternative.

As part of our ongoing pursuit to reduce inefficiency, we’re proud to announce a major milestone for Helm CONNECT. Nine electronic record books in our Logbook module have now been class certified by Lloyd’s Register and flag-state approved by the Republic of the Marshall Islands for use in accordance with MARPOL requirements—giving our customers a reliable, compliant path toward fully digital recordkeeping.

These approvals provide real-world validation that Helm CONNECT’s electronic record books meet the standards for use on Lloyd’s-classed and Marshall Islands–flagged vessels. It’s a practical, confidence-building step for fleets seeking to streamline operations and simplify audits without sacrificing regulatory alignment.

The nine certified record books are:

  • Oil Record Book, Part I – Machinery Space Operations

  • Oil Record Book, Part II – Cargo/Ballast Operations

  • Garbage Record Book, Part I

  • Garbage Record Book, Part II

  • Cargo Record Book

  • Ozone-Depleting Substances Record Book

  • Record Book of the Tier and On/Off Status of Marine Diesel Engines

  • Record Book of Engine Parameters

  • Record Book of Fuel Oil Changeover Operations

These approvals are published on the Lloyd’s Register and Republic of the Marshall Islands websites and governed by Marine Notice 7-041-5, which outlines requirements under MARPOL, the NOx Technical Code 2008, and the Ballast Water Management Convention.

What’s Next

These certifications are just the beginning. We’re already working toward approval from additional flag states, with acceptance by the U.S. Coast Guard and Transport Canada on the horizon.
